About the role
The River Operations Supervisor for Bolivia and Brazil acts as Impala Terminals' local representative in the Puerto Suárez‑Quijarro (Bolivia) and Corumbá‑Ladário (Brazil) areas. Working autonomously in a remote, high‑complexity environment, the role ensures safety, health, environment and quality (HSEQ) standards are met while maintaining continuous vessel and service operations.
Key responsibilities
- Represent Impala Terminals locally, serving as the primary contact for agencies, suppliers, authorities and crews.
- Supervise and audit river operations, including barges, tugs and convoys.
- Accompany crews during operations, providing on‑site guidance and direct supervision.
- Verify permits, documentation and agency procedures; upload inspections, audits and events to the company platform.
- Conduct safety inspections of vessels, barges and operational areas.
- Perform Permit‑to‑Work audits and ensure compliance with safe‑work procedures.
- Investigate incidents, near‑misses and unsafe conditions, producing root‑cause analyses and corrective action plans.
- Coordinate and supervise emergency drills (fire, spill, evacuation, man‑overboard).
- Monitor use of PPE and safety equipment across all activities.
- Audit contractors and service providers for safety compliance, insurance, certifications and KPI adherence.
- Support HSEQ induction for new employees, contractors and visitors, and manage work permits for external personnel.
- Assist with invoice tracking, cost monitoring and training of crews during low‑activity periods.
Required profile
- Proven experience supervising river or maritime operations in remote locations.
- Strong knowledge of HSEQ standards, safety audits and incident investigation.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating with remote supervisors.
- Excellent communication skills for interaction with authorities, agencies and multinational crews.
- Organizational skills to manage documentation, reporting and contractor performance.
