Senior Backend Engineer, NodeJS

About the role

As a Senior Backend Engineer you will work in a remote‑first, cross‑functional team alongside Frontend Engineers, Product, Design and QA to deliver high‑impact features for Deel’s global payroll and HR platform. You will be involved from product discovery through deployment, ensuring robust, scalable solutions that meet the needs of millions of users.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Frontend Engineers, Product Teams, Designers and QA to create seamless experiences.
• Participate in product planning from discovery to deployment, influencing the full software development lifecycle.
• Design, develop and enhance robust new features and APIs, continuously improving existing products.
• Identify, troubleshoot and resolve bugs quickly, maintaining high‑quality standards.
• Deliver a customer‑centric experience through attentive, quality‑focused development.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of software engineering experience, with strong expertise in Node.js and TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Deep knowledge of SQL and PostgreSQL, including query optimisation, migrations and data modelling.
• Solid understanding of object‑oriented programming, design patterns and scalable system architecture.
• Proven ability to build high‑volume, performant systems handling concurrency, idempotency and load.
• Experience building secure APIs with input validation, JWT authentication and queue‑based processing.
• Comfortable thriving in a remote‑first environment with strong asynchronous communication skills.
